York IE, a hybrid strategic advisory, investment, and operational growth firm, announced today that Tom Daly, former Senior Vice President, Infrastructure at Fastly, and former co-founder and Chief Technology Office (CTO) of Dyn, is now an investment partner and advisor, focusing on Internet infrastructure.
Tom has been globally recognized as an expert on how the Internet works at scale, from the fiber in the ground to complex global distributed systems and the protocols in-between. He is a sought after speaker having presented at NANOG, Velocity Conference, and Surge on Internet infrastructure.
Tom’s Background
Most recently, Tom served as SVP, Infrastructure at Fastly [NYSE: FSLY], where he was responsible for capacity planning and deployment of the Fastly Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Edge Cloud, overseeing datacenter operations, network engineering, and worldwide procurement / logistics.
Prior to Fastly, Tom was co-founder and CTO of Dyn, an Internet infrastructure company, which was acquired by Oracle in 2016. Tom played key roles in the architecture, design, and deployment of Fastly and Dyn’s global networks, spanning across more than 20 countries and 6 continents around the world.
“Honestly, it is not a stretch to say almost anyone in the world who has visited a website has benefited from Tom’s work,” said Kyle York, CEO and co-founder, York IE. “Tom is one of the best minds working on the Internet and his contributions will benefit many generations to come. He’s simply the most capable network operator I’ve ever met. We are thrilled to have Tom be a part of the extended York IE family.”
His Role at York IE
As an investor, Tom joins York IE’s core investment partner syndicate, which is the firm’s primary investment vehicle. This is made up of a diverse group of high net worth individuals, successful tech entrepreneurs, family offices, and institutions.
As an advisor, Tom will work more closely with relevant York IE portfolio companies and through discovery and due diligence of potential new ones. For example, the York IE team recently asked Tom to perform due diligence on VETRO FiberMap, which at the time was a prospective investment. Tom met with the leadership team and endorsed the company. Tom liked VETRO so much that he made an additional investment alongside York IE’s. York IE co-founder and Managing Partner Joe Raczka and Tom are both joining VETRO as board observers and York IE holistically has taken a strong advisory position in the company.
Tom joins York IE’s other publicly listed advisors, which include Bob Brown, former President, Bond Division of Fidelity Investments, Travis York, founder and CEO, York Creative Collective, Paul Heywood, Chief Revenue Officer, Puppet, and Dan McAuliffe, VP, Digital & eCommerce, YORK Athletics Mfg. There are approximately 20 additional investment partners and advisors, many of which have chosen to remain out of the spotlight.
“The team at York IE is well positioned to find, fund, and cultivate the next generation of great software innovators that will drive the future of enterprises.” said Tom Daly. “With more of our lives living the accelerated digital transformation that is upon us, we will continue to need to invest in core Internet infrastructure to scale to demands of today and the future.”
